ELCHE

Elche is a modern industrial city, but it also has a long and rich history where civilisations like the Iberian one left their mark. The famous sculpture LA DAMA DE ELCHE [The Lady of Elche] is a good example of it.

Elche is the third largest city in the Valencian Autonomous Region with its more than 240,000 inhabitants. It is perfectly connected with the port of Alicante by bus or local train (20 km).

Two World Heritages are in themselves a sufficient reason to visit it. The vastest Palm Grove [El Palmeral] in Europe, with over 200,000 palm trees, is an oasis surrounding the city. Take a walk and enjoy this magnificent cultural landscape during a pleasant route in the middle of nature.

The Misteri is the other World Heritage, an immaterial one in this case. It is a sacro-lyrical drama of medieval origin performed inside Basilica de Santa María [St. Mary’s Basilica] in the middle of August. Visit the Festa [Festivity] Museum to have a better knowledge of it during a cultural route across the city of Elche.

As for shopping, in addition to the varied high-street retail establishments located in the city centre, you can call at some of the outlet shops of famous footwear brands during a leisure excursion at Parque Empresarial [Business Park].
